The Halcyon House 3400 Prospect St. NW, Washington, DC, 20007
The Halcyon House A Georgian structure of great dignity and various, intimate rooms, Halcyon House commands an extended view southward across the Potomac River. The home, steeped in history, was named by a shipping merchant after the fabled bird that augurs calm seas.
In the late 19th century, Mark Twain's nephew made extensive Palladian-style additions. In the 1990s, great care was taken to restore and renovate the mansion with attention to architectural details. For example, rooms are finished in colors of hyacinth, sage and bosc pear.
Options include renting the first floor and gardens or renting the whole house including the underground studio of the famed sculptor-owner.
